Know What To Expect
Even if you’re an experienced do-it-yourselfer, carpet installation is intense and specialized. We recommend hiring a professional installation team if you want the best-looking finished product in the shortest amount of time.
We’ve created this carpet installation guide so you know what to expect when your installers arrive.
Before Carpet Installation
Hire an estimator to measure the dimensions of each room ahead of time.
You can do the following to prepare for the installation team:
- Most installers move heavy furniture, but double check with them ahead of time. Remove all bedspreads, pillows, electronics, breakables, and other small items. Secure all cables and wiring.
- If you’re remodeling other areas, be sure not to schedule another project the day of your carpet installation.
- Vacuum your old carpet – this will cut down on the dust that gets kicked up during removal. Confirm that your installers will remove your existing trim, padding and molding and prepare your subfloor – if not, you may have to do it yourself before installation.
During and After Carpet Installation
Your installers will need access to electrical outlets and a storage area.
After installation, you may notice shedding of loose carpet fibers for a couple months. This is normal, and will eventually subside after regular vacuuming.
